Stanley Yelnats

I was just thinking about stage names I could use and Stanley Yelnats came to me. He was the main character of the book Holes, a sort of childhood literary staple for my generation. There was eventually a movie made based on the book, and Shia Labeouf played Stanley. My thoughts wandered to what people’s preconceived image of me would be, and whether or not they would expect me to look like Shia Labeouf. I then questioned what my own imagined appearance of someone with the stage name Stanley Yelnats would be, and it turned out to take the shape of a mix between a curly-haired Jewish-looking guy and a chubby-ish black guy. Realizing that this was probably due to the Shia Labeouf influence mixing with the influence of the only other Stanley I know of, the black employee of the American version of The Office, I became saddened due to the fact that my mental process had been influenced in a significant way by a TV show.

And that’s what I thought about while brushing my teeth tonight.
